About the tour
Combine your ferry trip to Rangitoto with a guided tour of the island on our 4WD road-train (pictured right). Find out more about this unique volcano from our knowledgeable guides who provide fascinating commentary on the island's fiery past.
Tour itinerary
You board the ferry from the Downtown Auckland Ferry Terminal and enjoy a 25 minute cruise across the Waitemata Harbour to Rangitoto Island. On arrival your island, you will make your way to the parked explorer tour vehicle, where your ranger guide will greet you.
Once on board, you will journey through rugged lava crops and native bush, whilst our guide talks to you about the history and geology of the island. The tour can only reach the base of the summit where it's a short walk to the summit along a wooden boardwalk with steps to the very top.
After taking in the panoramic views, you rejoin the tour vehicle for the return trip to the wharf, which takes in the western side of the island.

What to bring
Although there is not a great deal of walking, it is a good idea to bring water, a snack/lunch, sun screen and a hat, as the island can get very hot.

Tours depart from Auckland City at 9.15am and 12.15pm daily
(departs Devonport 10 minutes after the Auckland departure time).
How much time is needed to do the tour?
The tour lasts 4 hours including ferry travel to and from the island.
