Fullers Ferries Finalist in National Cycling Awards
Media Release – October, 2009
Glasses are being raised by cyclists in Auckland and Waiheke to celebrate the selection of Fullers’ Integrated Ferry and Bus Service as a finalist in the Business category of the 2009 CAN National Cycle Friendly Awards. It is highly unusual for a transport company to receive this accolade, but it is not surprising to the many cyclists whose bikes are welcomed onto ferries every day from wharves around the inner harbour and Waiheke Island.
"We see Fullers Ferries as a godsend to cyclists in the Auckland region because of their outstanding services for transporting bikes" Said Barbara Cuthbert, Deputy Chair of Cycle Action Auckland and committee member of Cycle Action Waiheke.
"Fullers were nominated by both Cycle Action organisations as their superb promotion and daily help to cyclists goes unnoticed in a region where too little investment is made in cycling. Bikes travel for free on all ferries, they feature prominently in all Fullers' promotions and more ferries in the Fullers' fleet have extra space for bikes. Ferry travel extends our reach throughout the whole region. Fullers are even gearing up to carry bikes on their buses, once the Transport Regulations are changed. They are real leaders in integrating cycling into the public transport system." explained Barbara Cuthbert.
The CAN Cycle awards will be presented by the Associate Minister of Transport, the Hon Nathan Guy on behalf of the Minister of Transport, Steven Joyce at the end of the first day of the NZ Cycling Conference to be held in New Plymouth on Thursday, 12 November.
