FARE DODGER ON FULLERS WAIHEKE FERRY SERVICE APPREHENDED BY POLICE
Media Release – June 27, 2008
Auckland, 27 June, 2008 – Passenger caught using counterfeit monthly pass on Waiheke commuter ferry is detained by police.
A situation occurred on the 7.20am Waiheke to Auckland ferry service this morning when a Waiheke commuter using a counterfeit monthly pass ended up being escorted away by the police in Auckland.
Vessel crew loading at Waiheke spotted that the passenger's monthly pass was counterfeit and forewarned management in Auckland as the boat was in transit.
The passenger was met by Fullers staff at the Auckland wharf who confirmed the monthly pass was in fact counterfeit and called in the police. The passenger was interviewed by law enforcement officials before being taken away for further questioning.
Fullers Operations Manager Ian Greenslade praised vigilant staff for spotting the phony pass: “All credit goes to the vessel crew for intervening in this mans fraudulent activity. Its people like this who attempt to defraud the system, who cheat the honest passengers who buy the correct tickets”
The police have subsequently issued a trespass notice banning the passenger from using any Fullers ferry services for a period of two years.
Fullers said passengers caught using counterfeit tickets in the future may be issued with an indefinite trespass notice on all its ferry and bus services. They said information on passengers who attempt to defraud would also be passed onto other Auckland ferry operators.
