REACHING RANGITOTO ISLAND HAS NEVER BEEN EASIER
Media Release – December 5, 2008
Fullers Group Ltd announces the launch of extra ferry services to Rangitoto Island for the summer season. From 6th December until April 26th, a weekend and public holiday service will operate from Half Moon Bay and Waiheke Island to Rangitoto Island. In addition to the daily services from Auckland to Rangitoto, an additional early morning service will also run on weekends and public holidays.
With the introduction of these new services, this unique 600 year old volcanic island has now become a more accessible day trip option for residents of Waiheke Island and southern/eastern regions of Auckland. The recommendedwalk to the summit, boasting 360° views of Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf islands, takes about an hour at an easy pace. Lookouts along the way provide some stunning views, with an option to detour and explore lava caves, and other tracks that skirt the coastline are signposted from the wharf.
The new weekend sailings to Rangitoto depart Half Moon Bay at 8.30am, 12.40pm, 2.30pm and 5pm and return from Rangitoto departing at 9.50am, 1.10pm, 3pm and 5.30pm. The new weekend sailing from Waiheke Island to Rangitoto departs Matiatia at 9.20am and departs Rangitoto at 3pm. The new early morning weekend service from Auckland to Rangitoto departs at 7.30pm. Special ‘Early Bird' fares, Adults $15, Child $7.50, same day return only, apply to the new morning services.
