UPGRADED BUSES ARRIVE ON WAIHEKE ISLAND
Media Release – 25 February, 2009
Fullers is pleased to announce that Waiheke Islanders will soon be travelling more comfortably with the arrival of five modern, low floor buses into the Fullers' Waiheke Bus Company fleet.
"Fullers is committed to being the Hauraki Gulf's leading passenger transport operator," says Douglas Hudson, General Manager, Fullers Group Ltd.
"We are constantly looking for ways to improve our offering and are now pleased to be able to provide a standard of bus on Waiheke that compares well with buses available in Auckland city."
The new buses are due to arrive on the island in two phases. The first two are expected this week and will be in operation soon after. The new bus types include two MAN 202's with a seating capacity for 45 passengers and further space for 16 standing passengers, as well as three MAN 600's with a seating capacity for 39 passengers and further capacity for 15 standing passengers.
"With wide entrances, exits and walkways, low floors and the 'kneel on demand' ability, these buses are especially suitable and accessible for elderly customers and those passengers with prams," says Mr. Hudson.
"Also, all the new buses are fully automatic, which provides for a much smoother and more comfortable journey."
Waiheke Bus Company is also proud to provide buses of Euro Standard to the Waiheke community, which means they are more environmentally friendly. The MAN 600s are Euro I Standard, as are the existing the MAN 500s. MAN 600s can also be lowered to footpath level for ease of access.
The new buses will be dedicated to commuter routes.
