DECKHAND

deckhand

Deckhands are responsible for all aspects of managing the deck work on board the vessel as directed by the Master, including berthing and unberthing of vessels. Customer service skills are essential in this role as duties involve circulating around the deck and cabin and ensuring customer service and comfort standards are met. Deckhands also supervise On Board Services staff and provide training of On Board Services Crew in relation to deck duties as required. The responsibilities of a deckhand revolve around the marine aspect of the vessel, checking of the equipment, including engines, and they report any faults to the Master.

There are two levels of deckhand roles in Fullers, the most senior is the ILM Deckhand which requires the Inshore Launch Master's qualification or equivalent. Opportunities for advancement include gaining a Master's qualification, and/or engineering qualification to become a Marine Engineer.
