Our island destinations are incredibly popular at this time of year with both locals and visitors alike. We’ve put together some helpful tips to help make your trip as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

Arrive early

Especially for trips to Waiheke. We recommend arriving up to 40 mins before your desired departure time to avoid missing your first choice sailing.

Expect Queues

There may be long lines to board, especially on Waiheke sailings. Please be patient, our staff are working hard to minimise the wait times and get you on your way as fast as possible. If your travel time is flexible, plan your travel outside of the busy times. 9.30am – 11.00am and 4.00-pm – 5.30pm are super busy.

Love thy neighbour

We all like a bit of space on board the ferry, however when it’s busy we ask that bags are placed on the floor or in luggage racks and not on seats so other customers can sit down. That way everyone can have a comfortable trip.

Pre-purchase tickets

Where possible, pre-purchase your tickets online or at one of our ticket offices well before your sailing. This saves you from having to stand in queues twice. Our tours in particular sell out fast and have limited space.

Best value explorer bus pass

For those travelling to Waiheke Island, save money and time, grab your Hop-on Hop-off Explorer bus ticket with your ferry pass. These buses are the easiest way to get around the island. The buses stop at major landmarks around the island including beaches and the top vineyards.

Pre-book travel

The following services and products require you to book before you travel – Coromandel, Rotoroa Island, Tiritiri Matangi, Rangitoto Island and all tour products. We recommend you book in advance. Other services, such as Waiheke Island and Devonport, don’t require you to book before you travel.

Pest-free island travellers

If you are travelling to a pest-free destination you'll be required to complete some basic compliance checks before you depart so please arrive 40 minutes prior to departure.
