Overview

This is a great family day with events and activities to keep everyone entertained and involved all day long.

The Onetangi Beach Races have held a place in Waiheke’s history since the 1800s. For nearly 20 years Rotary have organised this annual family fun day as a charity event to give back to the Waiheke community. 

Childrens activities

The day starts at 10 am with a host of activities for children on and around the beach area.

  • Build an awesome sandcastle in the sandcastle competition
  • Take part in the Big Dig for Under 10s and win some great prizes
  • Wheelbarrow races for all ages
  • Age-group races along the beach
  • Sand sculpture competition for all ages

This is a great family day with events and activities to keep everyone entertained and involved all day long. Beach racing involving tractors, horses and Sealegs starts from 10.30am.

Pack your towels, togs, bucket and spade for a great day out at Onetangi Beach.

Beach races

This year the Onetangi Beach Races continues its expanded programme to give a full schedule of serious (and not so serious) racing.

The race programme, which starts at 10.30am, includes:

  • Tractor racing 
  • Segway racing
  • Uniformed Services race - Fire Service/Police/St John's/Coastguard
  • Sealegs racing
  • Horse racing (Tote operating)

Fashion in the field

Always a popular event at the beach races, the Fashion in the Field event will this year be held at 2 pm in front of the hospitality marquee.

  • There are three categories: Mens, Womens and Children (under 16)
  • All contestants must register at the Rotary Tent up on the Strand above the beach by 1 pm
  • A small entry fee of $5 will apply

Silent auction

A key fund-raiser for the Onetangi Beach Races is the Silent Auction with some amazing items ranging from accommodation packages, travel, artisan produce, artwork, jewellery, personal services and adventure activities.

  • Bids can be made from 10am through to 3pm on race day.    
  • All items must be collected by 3.30pm.
