Auckland Transport has completed structural assessments on Northcote wharf. Ferry services will not operate until a decision has been made around the repair or replacement of the wharf and AT apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Following a routine maintenance check Auckland Transport decided to temporarily close Northcote Point wharf on 20 June 2018. An inspection found that some of the wooden structural pieces of the wharf have gradually deteriorated and may need to be replaced. Some parts of the wharf are more than 50 years old.
Testing and analysis of Northcote wharf has been far more complex than anticipated, hence the delay in updates about the wharf and its reopening. AT is now working through a decision-making process around the repair or replacement of the wharf, which involves cost estimates, availability of funding and overall timings. Until a decision has been made, Northcote wharf will remain closed.
Customers travelling to/from Auckland City will need to continue catching a ferry service from Birkenhead. For more information about the closure please visit https://at.govt.nz/bus-train-ferry/service-announcements/northcote-point-ferry-wharf-closure/
