Labour Weekend is one of the busiest times of the year for travel to Waiheke and Rangitoto Islands, and we’re expecting high demand across all sailings with some clear weather on the horizon.
With more people heading away to enjoy the long weekend, the Downtown Ferry Terminal and island wharves are likely to be particularly busy.
The good news is, with the change to our Peak Season Timetable on 20 October, we are now running even more sailings daily between Auckland and Waiheke Island. View our peak season timetable here
A reminder that our Waiheke Reserve bookable service helps you to get to where you need to be, if you have a fixed schedule.

Here are a few tips to help your trip go as smoothly as possible:
- Arrive early for Waiheke Walk-up service - We recommend arriving at least 60 minutes before your sailing if you are travelling on our Waiheke Walk-up service, particularly for popular departure times.
- Pre-purchase your Waiheke Walk-Up tickets – Pre-purchasing tickets for our Waiheke Walk-up service in advance can help to reduce wait times at the ticket kiosks.
- Book our Waiheke Reserve service - Book your ferry sailing in advance and board up to 15 minutes prior to departure on our premium Waiheke Reserve service. This service allows you to skip the busy weekend queues going out to Waiheke Island, and on your way back to the city.
- Be flexible where possible - If your plans allow, consider travelling outside of peak hours on our Waiheke Walk-up service to avoid the busiest sailings.
- Travel light - Space on board can be limited, so packing light can help ensure a more comfortable journey for everyone.
