3. Getting on the ferry

To load your bike on the ferry, wheel it on and look for the bike racks or hooks. Please ask our crew if you are not sure.

Passengers may bring their bike or scooter on board most of our sailings, this is free of charge and is subject to available space.

Bikes and scooters are not permitted on sailings to and from any of the Department of Conservation (DoC) protected islands which include: Rangitoto Island, Rotoroa Island, Motutapu Island and Motuihe Island.

To load your bike on the ferry, wheel it on and look for the bike racks or hooks. Using these storage options reduces the risk of your bike falling and causing damage or injury. If there is no available storage, then you can lean your bike against a rail or stand out the way with it.

Just make sure your bike is not stored in front of any emergency equipment, doorways (including bathrooms and engine rooms) and access ways. If you’re unsure then please ask one of our friendly crew members for assistance.

E-bikes and e-scooters need to be stored outside on the back deck of most of our vessels because of their lithium batteries. Two of our larger vessels enable e-bikes and e-scooters to be stowed inside the cabin because they have the required safety equipment on board.
