Rated as one of the top 20 wilderness beaches in the world, New Chums Beach is famous for its unspoiled beauty – white sand and clear azure water. You’ll arrive in this paradise within three hours of leaving Auckland. Take a picnic, go for a swim or simply relax.

What's included

Whangapoua Beach – Arrive at Whangapoua Beach, a local favourite known for its beauty and safe swimming.

Scenic Walkway and New Chums Beach – From Whangapoua Beach, you can walk to the breathtaking New Chums Beach. The self-guided walkway takes about 30 minutes, crossing a tidal stream and rockhopping along the coast. Your reward is relaxation on the stunning, secluded white sand beach. Bring your swimming gear if you’d like to go for a dip!

Scenic shuttle transfer – Getting to the beach and back is half the fun. The adventure starts with a scenic drive over mountains and along the eastern coastline. The tour also includes return transfer from the Coromandel ferry (Hannafords Wharf) via Coromandel Town.

Moderate fitness, balance and agility is required to traverse the walkway from Whangapoua Beach to New Chums Beach.

Duration: 3 hours (weekdays) or 4 hours (weekends)
Availability: Tour operates daily in conjunction with the 360 Discovery Cruises Coromandel ferry
Departure Time: Tour departs Coromandel Town at approximately 11.15-11.30am daily, and returns at 2.15pm on weekdays and 3.30pm on weekends

Schedule: We’ve partnered with a local tour company to provide a bespoke Coromandel experience. As all tours depart from Coromandel Town, we provide a complimentary shuttle from the wharf. Here’s what your day will likely look like: 

  • Ferry arrives at Hannafords Wharf, Coromandel: Approximately 10.45am
  • Shuttle to Coromandel Town: Meets the ferry at Hannafords Wharf, and arrives in Coromandel Town at approximately 11.15am
  • Tour departs Coromandel Town: Meets shuttle to depart at approximately 11.15-11.30am
  • Tour returns to Coromandel Town: 2.15pm (Weekdays) or 3.30pm (weekends/public holidays)
  • Shuttle to Hannafords Wharf: Departs Coromandel Town (Samuel James Reserve car park) 30 minutes prior to scheduled ferry departure
