Now in its 29th year, the annual Fullers360 Wharf2wharf fun run and carnival continues to grow in popularity. The addition of a full measured marathon last year proved to be an instant favourite and will be a staple of the event going forward. Said by many to be New Zealand's toughest, most scenic and most friendly marathon, it is attracting a lot of interest from both local and overseas competitors.
The signature event is the 25k run (or walk) which goes from one end of the island to the other (Orapiu wharf to Matiatia wharf) and this is always hugely popular with its challenging hills and beautiful scenery.
Other distances include a 12k run or walk which is mostly flat and runs from Onetangi beach to the finish line at Matiatia, a 5k run or walk which goes from Surfdale beach to Matiatia, and a kids dash for the little ones at Matiatia.
The organisers are very focused on providing a fantastic carnival at the finish line for everyone to enjoy, both athletes and their supporters, where there will be food and drinks (including alcohol) available, and where two major spot prizes will be drawn. Prize one is dinner and accommodation for two plus a basket of goodies, and prize two is $1000 cash.
The event is held this year on March 14th 2020. See www.wharf2wharf.co.nz for more details and to enter.
