Rotoroa Island needs your help on its upcoming weed hunt and destroy mission. We’re giving volunteers a 40% discount on ferry tickets to be part of this vital weed-busting team!
Rotoroa is looking for 10 volunteers who are experienced gardeners, trampers and/or weeders.
The team will be focussing weeding efforts on the MaiMay Bay's forested coastal gully, so there will be a lot of climbing up steep banks in dense, tight vegetation and using cut n paste (a glyphosate based gel herbicide), pruning saws and loppers.
There will be time at the end of weeding to explore the island, spot one of the island's endangered species and enjoy a chat over a sausage sizzle.
Note: Backup date will be Sunday 18th August
Your lunch and plenty of water to drink
Tramping/hiking boots
Several layers of clothes (long sleeves and long pants essential) and wet weather gear
Sunscreen and sun hat
Gardening gloves if you have them
If you require any medication, please bring it with you (especially if you are an allergy sufferer)
Staff will have a basic first aid kit only
