January 24 2022 - April 18 2022

Overview

In January 2022, a truly immersive experience celebrating Aotearoa, art and marine conservation is coming to Tamaki Makaurau. Whale Tales is a public art trail exploring the city of sails, and you’re invited!

A trail of unique whale tail sculptures, designed by artists and children and sponsored by businesses and organisations, will animate the city and bring to life themes of protecting and restoring the mauri of our ocean. Eighty large tail sculptures will dot Auckland’s streets, parks and open spaces to provide residents and visitors a fresh opportunity to explore all that Auckland has to offer.

Once the trail has finished the sculptures will be auctioned to raise funds for WWF New Zealand and the vital work they do to look after our moana and marine life throughout Aotearoa, particularly in and around the Hauraki Gulf.

The Fullers360 tail

You will find the Fullers360 sponsored tail at the Downtown Ferry Terminal, Pier 12, outside the Fullers360 iTourism information centre.

The artists

The tail we’re sponsoring has been created by Celine Chang and Janet Lu. Celine and Janet are animation and design graduates from AUT who love getting creative, no matter the medium or challenge.

They met in class and bonded over their passion for nature and travelling, which is how their trip to Niue came about. It was one of their favourite adventures and where they fell more in love with the ocean and wildlife.
